Linda Dawe's career began in 1970 as a journalist for Canada's first music magazine, Beetle Publications. In 1971 she moved on to Columbia/CBS RecordsCanada as part of the A&R team Carolyn Cowan, Gary Muthand VPJohn Williams. In 1974 Linda continued her tenure with the major labels as promotion coordinator for MCA RecordsCanada withScott Richards,Randy Sharrard working with artists such as Dolly Parton, The Who, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Ronnie Milsap, Charlie Pride, The Good Brothers, Jefferson Starship, Oscar Peterson, Carroll Baker, Loretta Lynn, Hank Snow.
In 1976Ed Preston, president of RCA Records, hired Linda Dawe as the first female promotion manager in Canada, reporting to VP Andy Nagy. She hiredChris Allicockhandling promotion and publicity for artists such as Bob Marley, Hall & Oates,Elton John.She worked closely with producer & Juno Award winner, Willi Morrisonfrom the UK, the creative developer of albums forTHP Orchestra, THOR,Grand Tour. In 1980 she formedLinda Dawe Associates, one of the first to promote artists on independent labels in Canada. Developing a relationship with radio programmers, she "broke" the charts with newcomers Frankie & the Knockouts, Kix, Cruiser,Don McLean ("Crying"), David Wilcox.
By 1987 LDA morphed intoThe Music Brokershiring the teamChris Allicock, Dulce Barbosa,Nancy MayerpromotingGipsy Kings, Billy Vera, Blue Rodeo, Rita MacNeil. The list goes on...Randy Bachman, The Kings, Pavlo, Larry Gowan, Honeymoon Suite, The Northern Pikes, Downchild Blues Band, Kastin, Nancy Martinez, Mike Plume, The Mahones, The Immigrants, The Yardbirds, Carlos Morgan, Kelly Willis, The Rockin' Highlighters, The Satelites, Moxy Fruvous, Hugh Dillon, Colin Hay, Jane Siberry...
Then came along a new bi-lingual artist,Roch Voisine.As a result of radio promotion, his first self-written hit single, "Helene" went #9 Canada-AC charts in 1989 (eventually selling 3 million albums). Linda Dawe managed radio, publicity and international tour promotion for Roch Voisine for the next decade.
In 1990, withScott Richards, former president of MCA/Universal and Freedom Records, Linda foundedMusic Solutions Inc(MSI)promotingRoch Voisine, Emma Shapplin, Helmut Lotti, Andre Gagnon. She also promoted the first single by an indie rock band named Nickelback (which didn't get much airplay).
With associate Willi Morrison,Linda Dawe secured major international record contracts forMatt DuskandRyanDan. Linda Dawecurrently promotes several independent artists to radio stations in Canada.
